Thin Panda: The Power of Vitamin D3

The Power of Vitamin D3

Vitamin D comes in two major types: Vitamin D2 (also known as ergocalciferol-D2) and Vitmain D3 (also known as cholecalciferol-D3). There are big difference between the two types of Vitamin D. It can get confusing and most people don’t know the difference between the two. So, we wanted to give you the facts in black and white.

What is Vitamin D2?

Vitamin D2 is cheaper and doesn’t have the same impact in raising your Vitamin D levels like Vitamin D3. 1 Until recently, you could not get vitamin D3 from plants, so it was really the only option for vegans and people who didn’t want to get their vitamins from animal sources. Unfortunately, despite the clear benefits of Vitamin D3, Vitamin D2 is still used more often in fortified products because it is cheaper.

What is Vitamin D3?

It is generally thought that Vitamin D3 is better than Vitamin D2 because it can better raise Vitamin D levels in the bloodstream. Studies have shown that Vitamin D3 is better absorbed and is much better at raising your actual vitamin D levels. Research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition stated that Vitamin D3 was generally better than Vitamin D2 confirmed that there was a significantly better uptake system response to vitamin D3 over vitamin D2.

New Plant-Based Vitamin D3?

With the discovery of plant-based vitamin D3, now you can get higher quality vitamin D3 from non-animal sources. Vitamin D3 is also the version of Vitamin D which is created by our skin when exposed to sunlight. So, if you want the most effective, absorbed and biologically active form of Vitamin D from sustainable plants, be sure to look for plant-based vitamin D3 preferred by Thin Panda.
